Member for Northern Victoria Region

My work to support community resilience and safety includes:

Pressing for everyone working in Parliament to be held to the same standards as anyone in the community accused of bullying, harassment and sexual assault.

I moved on March 22, 2022, for a Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission inquiry into parliamentary standards.

Action
Hold everyone in Parliament to the same standard

Pushing for Education First Youth Foyers in Wangaratta and Wodonga to give education and job opportunities to young people at risk of homelessness.

I continue to advocate Victorian Budget funding for the development of Education First Youth Foyers in these rural cities.

Action
$77m Budget funding submission put to treasurer

Supporting collaboration between state and federal governments to invest in high-care residential aged care so older people can stay in the communities they call home

I’m working with Ovens Valley MP Tim McCurdy and federal Indi MP Helen Haines to secure redevelopment funding for Alpine Health’s Bright hospital campus – the only community of its size in Victoria without high-care residential aged care.

Action
Successfully appealing to government to support the plan

Pushing for more drug-driver roadside testing to reduce the risk of accidents and improve safety for you on our roads.

I asked the Police Minister on September 9, 2021, to enable general duty Victoria Police officers to carry out roadside drug-driver testing.

Action
Expand roadside drug testing

Pressing for a drug court and linked alcohol and drug rehabilitation center in Mildura to reduce drug use and community crime.

Action
Mildura needs a dedicated drug court

Making sure brigade firefighting women become eligible for work-related cancer compensation in the same way as men.

The government committed on October 27, 2021, to consider medical and scientific advice ahead of reform.

Action
Women firefighters deserve equal compensation rights

Keeping pressure on the government to make sure ambulance, fire and emergency services are properly funded, staffed and equipped so you can get help when you need it.

I secured an extra $14.8 million from the government to boost regional ambulance resources, including extra paramedics and ambulances for peak period units deployed to Eaglehawk and Gisborne, more capacity for ambulance services in Benalla, Castlemaine and Daylesford, and increasing on-call to 24-hour service coverage.

I presented a 999-signature petition to Parliament to restore on-call ambulance services in the Seymour community.

Action
Welcome funding for regional ambulance service

Keeping communities safe by maintaining investment in local health and police service infrastructure.

Funding advocacy led government to commit $28.9 million for a new Victoria Police station in Benalla, $1m for Tomorrow Today Foundation for early intervention work to enhance school readiness, $48m for Swan Hill District Health hospital service and $10m for Mansfield Autism Statewide Services.

Action
Prevention at heart of adolescent violence and mental health funding
