Tania Maxwell MP, Member for Northern Victoria, will be undertaking the ‘Day for Daniel’ fundraising walk differently this year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Instead of making the trip to Queensland to walk alongside Bruce and Denise Morcombe, Ms Maxwell will instead be raising awareness by walking locally through Wangaratta.

Day for Daniel is Australia’s largest day of action to fundraise and raise awareness of child safety, protection and harm prevention. This day is held annually on the last Friday of October, so this year will run on Friday 30 October.

The theme for this year’s walk is ‘Wear Red, Educate and Donate’.  The Daniel Morcombe Foundation was established in the memory of Daniel Morcombe to make Australia a safer place for children. It was founded by Daniel’s parents Bruce and Denise after their son was abducted and murdered in December 2003, a case which captured and devastated the hearts of our communities.

Day for Daniel is the Daniel Morcombe Foundation’s biggest fundraiser each year. Ms Maxwell says that schools, workplaces and community groups can support the fundraising efforts and help the Foundation to continue developing free resources and programs for parents, carers, and educators to teach children how to stay safe. Funds raised also contribute to supporting young victims of crime.
