MEMBER for Northern Victoria Tania Maxwell, PICTURED, has moved a motion in the Legislative Council to introduce restrictions for violent and sexual offenders on parole.

The Justice Party member’s motion calls on the Victorian Government to make it compulsory for violent and sexual recidivist offenders to live within a 10km radius of a Victoria Police station and in an area that is not a known mobile blackspot.

Parole and bail reforms are key priorities for Ms Maxwell, following her election on platforms geared to strengthen community safety.

Ms Maxwell said that our parole system should operate in a manner that minimises the prospect of reoffending.

“In cases of violent and sexual offenders, closer supervision and monitoring is essential to keeping our community safe,” she said.

The motion now appears on the notice paper for Government consideration, to be debated on the floor or potentially converted into a Private Members Bill at a later date.
